When I applied this to my inner critic, I realized it wanted to motivate me to do better. But the criticism had the OPPOSITE effect. I would often feel defeated and take things way too personally.
This may seem a little counter intuitive as typically we try to distract ourselves from pain. We try to put our mind somewhere else.
