What are your stories of Intuition?

Knowing how your intuition came through for you can help you recognize your intuitive style

I remember when I was taking wilderness courses and shamanic training classes in the woods of New Jersey (New Jersey of all places? you wouldn’t think it but yes, the Pine Barren’s have a special magic in the twilight hours as the whipperwills echo through the pines).

I’d taken multiple courses there in which we camped out in tents and lived the skills of wilderness living and connected to the deeper wisdom of nature and “the spirit that moves through all things.”

In the summer of 1993, the wilderness scchool had an opportunity to volunteer as a caretaker, live out on the land (there were no facilities or structures) and you would clean up camp after the classes and make sure things were secure.

I knew in my heart I wanted to do this for the summer, it just felt bright and compelling. So I called the school to ask if I could do this during the summer.

“No, its all full right now, we have our maximum number of people and can’t allow any more.” I was dissappointed, said thank you and we hung up the phone.

But I still could feel that inkling desire to go, so I checked out the classes and there was one in May where I could volunteer,, so I set up to be a volunteer.

I had the thought to pack my bags for 3 months. It meant taking a lot more supplies than just a week, but I knew how to travel light and instead of booking a flight, I booked a train so I could take some extra gear.

I figured I could just be packed as if to stay 3 months if the opportunity came up.

When I got there, I checked in with the head of the volunteers, and asked about the opportunity to be a caretaker for the summer.

He said, “Well, that’s good timing, just last night the other 5 caretakers are leaving so yes you can stay as long as you want to.”

Wow! Had I listened to head office, I would have missed this opportunity. But I was ready for the adventure with all my gear. It worked out, just like intuition told me.

It was a beautiful summer where I took my first Vision Quest, lived in the woods in earth shelters, swam in the Pine Barren’s crystal clear swamp and experienced a deep, enriching connection to the earth.

Think of examples of your own intuition, how did it come through for you?

This can help you identify the ways intuition shows up for you. In this story, intuition came through as an inner knowing. There were no words, just the feeling of it, the sense of it. It was more a gut response.  Recognizing your intuition stories can help you clarify your own experiences.

Intuition can come through any of your 5 senses and more. Getting clear on your intuition stories can help you recognize when to trust it, or when to use tools to clarify what its telling you.
